The caff on York Road

Elms Coffee Shop is a family-run cafe at 232 York Road in Battersea, serving cooked breakfasts and hot lunches to this stretch of London.

Our place

Nothing fancy. Just good food.

We are a traditional London caff and we are not pretending otherwise. Formica tables, a proper counter, sauce on the table and a kitchen you can hear working. The kettle goes on at six and the grill does not stop until we close.

What keeps people coming back is simple: the food is cooked when you order it, the portions are honest, and the prices have not run away from what this street can afford. More than 177 people have reviewed us on Google and left us at 4.7 out of five, which for a caff on a busy road means a great deal to us.

The neighbourhood

Battersea, before the rebuild and after

York Road has changed a great deal in ten years. The Power Station went from a ruin to a shopping centre, new blocks went up along the river, and the people walking past our window changed with them. We stayed where we were.

Early starts

We open at 6am because the trades and drivers on this road start before most kitchens in London are even lit.

Eat in or take away

There is room inside for a proper sit-down, and everything on the menu boxes up if you are in a hurry.

Regulars welcome

Plenty of people here order the same thing every week. We know it before it is spoken, and that is rather the point.

Rated 5 out of 5 — ‘Very Good’

Elms Coffee Shop holds the top Food Hygiene Rating of 5 from the Food Standards Agency, inspected by Wandsworth Council. It covers how the food is handled, how the kitchen is kept and how the whole place is managed.
